Wales

The Wales test is looking at implementing a green-first hierarchy, applying the CVF, and enabling supportive regulation to increase water company uptake of NbS schemes.

The test will involve:​

1. Understanding biases across the end-to-end decision-making process using AMP8 schemes and improving the optioneering process to support greater uptake of NbS in the future ​
2. Testing the MNbS Common Value Framework retrospectively and on current schemes to more accurately assess the true value of nature-based solutions.

The primary focus is to scope opportunities for greater uptake of NbS by Welsh Water and to support local Rivers Trusts to deliver NbS.

The hypothesis of the Wales test is that implementing a green-first hierarchy, applying the Common Value Framework, and enabling supportive regulation will lead to a greater uptake of nature-based solution schemes by the water company.
