A summary of the Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions (MNbS) programme progress to date (Jan – Jun 2026)

The Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions programme is now in Phase 2: assessing, testing and improving the tools developed in Phase 1. 

Progress so far 

Eight regional tests are now helping to show how these ideas can work in practice. 

Testing of the MNbSl toolkit that will support wider use of nature-based solutions, including value, risk, data and policy frameworks. 

The Catchment Resilience Pathway is being developed as a practical way to create funded and measurable catchment resilience packages. 

Programme outputs are being developed so they can inform future planning and regulation, including PR29, WINEP/A-WINEP and wider water reform. 

What happens next 

The programme is focussed on delivering Phase 2 outputs by October 2026, progressing the regional tests and using partner workshops to strengthen the evidence base. 

The team will also continue targeted communications and advocacy to support policy influence, sector adoption and long-term impact.
